What would a world without movies be like? Just imagine, waking up to a world without any Sholay, a world that never saw Die Hard. Nobody telling Pushpa they hate tears or reminiscing their mother saying how life is like a box of chocolates – how bland would that world be. The populace of our planet would be left bereft of one of the main avenues of entertainment.

Thankfully enough, such a world does not exist and us movie lovers have an array of content at our disposal, movies with a myriad of scripts and themes. Actors, producers, directors and entire crews toil under sun and rain to bring us stories to feel with, to cry with and to laugh with. Cinema is a medium that has changed progressively with time. It is now striving to garner more representation to the LGBTQ+ community, people of colour and women. In that regard, 2018 was a great year for movie-buffs like you and I. And as this list will show you, 2019 is going to be even better:

1. Kesari:

Trust Akshay Kumar to bring out the best stories of courage and bravery on to the big screen! Kesari talks of the Battle of Saragarhi in which 21 soldiers of a Sikh battalion fought against 10000 Afghan soldiers. Set around the theme of patriotism, fervor and determination, the movie also stars Parineeti Chopra and is directed by Anurag Singh. Do not forget to catch this stunner on March 21st!

3. Student of The Year 2:

It was in October of 2012 that Karan Johar introduced Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra to Bollywood, giving it three actors who’ve already gone on to become superstars. Now, the stalwart producer seeks to usher in Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria in SOTY 2 along with one of the fittest actors in the industry, Tiger Shroff. So, mark your calendars for the 10th of May as the beloved franchise returns with another story of friendship, love and youth.

4. Housefull 4:

From the makers who tickled your funny bone with the first three installments, Housefull 4 promises to be as much of a laugh riot as its three prequels. It stars the original cast of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Boman Irani and Chunky Pandey and some new faces like Kriti Sanon and Rana Daggubati. Scheduled for a Diwali release, the film looks set to be another caper!

5. Brahmastra:

When a director as talented as Ayan Mukerji spends 6 years writing a story, it seems easy to trust it. When a producer like Karan Johar backs the story, you trust it more. And when the movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Nagarjuna and Alia Bhatt, it becomes kinda-sorta impossible to wait for it! Touted to be the first installment in a trilogy, Brahmastra is centered around romance and the supernatural. Christmas has never seemed so far!

6. Avengers: Endgame:

Last year, Thanos snapped his fingers and half of our superheroes turned to dust. This year, the remaining heroes join forces with Captain Marvel as they strive to defeat the mad titan. Consisting of the who’s who of the acting world from Tom Hiddleston and Tom Holland to Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt, the movie is scheduled to release in May.

7. Star Wars: Episode IX:

Have you, too, been endlessly waiting for the answers to your questions after watching The Last Jedi? Well, you won’t have to wait too long because this December, the force returns with its final episode, set a year after The Last Jedi, and promises to answer questions you didn’t even know you had. The film stars John Boyega and Daisy Ridley reprising their roles along with cameos by Jamie Oliver and Ed Sheeran!

8. Frozen 2:

It’s been six years and we still have not been able to let it go, let go of Frozen, that is! Years after Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven melted our hearts and the snow in their kingdom, they return to take us down the same road again, this time in a strange battle far away from the beloved kingdom of Arendelle. It will be interesting to see what lies in store for one of the most popular modern Disney princesses and her unique, motley family. November couldn’t come sooner.

9. Wonder Woman 2:

Gal Gadot’s Diana was strong, fierce, brave and wise. It was of little surprise, then, that we fell in love with her. And the first instalment of the new adaptation of our favourite Amazonian’s story, made sense to us. Now, the cast and crew return to give us a battle between Wonder Woman and her famed nemesis, Cheetah. Scheduled to release in November, this movie promises to be another blockbuster.

10. Spiderman: Far From Home:

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker won hearts and applause for his innocence and adorability. Now, in the much hyped-sequel, an Infinity War-hardened Peter fights against Jake Gyllenhall’s Mysterio in the city of London. The weird and cute group of Michelle, Peter and Ned in the beautiful city of London promises to be a delight and the fact That Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury only adds to it. July is going to be amazing.
