Age is just a number. And now, GOAT is a person by the name of Roger Federer. Federer was already the odds on favorite having led Cilic 8-1 in their previous encounters.
The Croat got off to the worst possible start, being broken twice in the first set as Federer closed it out in under 25 minutes. Things were a lot more competitive in the second set. This is because Marin Cilic held his nerve to take the tie-break.
The third set was all Federer. However, Cilic came storming back in the fourth to set up an exciting fifth set. The usual suspects started with critics writing Federer off even before the set began because apparently “he is too old to last the distance”.
But when you are the GOAT, you do not listen to the opinions of peasants. And well, Federer annihilated Cilic in the last set as he triumphed in style.

Cilic however, put up the fight of his life having to fight back from a set down on 2 occasions and once he got his serve going, it looked like he would finally derail the FedExpress.
Federer however, dug that extra bit deep in his locker and delivered when it really mattered.
In a rare instance, Federer didn’t have to break much sweat enroute to the final with Novak, Nadal, Delpo and Wawrinka being knocked out by lesser opponents in the early stages of the tournament. It was a relative walk in the park for the 5 time Aussie Open champion, one he relished as he made it through without having dropped a set.
