We are a generation that is in constant need of entertainment. Our entertainment industry keeps producing one story after the other, week after week. And with each new entertainer, we end up finding newer faces on screen. Many of these actors become our favourites. While others just seem to be apt for just one role. Some of these are just not able to pull off any other role, or sometimes do not even get a chance to try that.
So, we thought of taking a stock of all the actors who made them appreciate once and they were just wiped off our memory.
1. Ameesha Patel
This girl Hritik Roshan romanced in his debut “Kaho na pyaar hai”, got critically acclaimed with her intense role in the cross-border romance movie “Gadar”. Yes Ameesha Patel is on this list, because let’s face it she couldn’t turn the audiences on with her hot dance number “lazy lamhe”. An Economics Honours graduate from Tufts University, this trained Bharatnatyam dancer has been doing side roles in movies like “Race 2”, “Aap ki Khatir”, “Vaada”, “Humraaz” but didn’t sizzle. In 2011 she even started her own production house by the name Ameesha Patel Productions, but we are still to see any movie come out of that project.
2. Imaad Shah
Known for his role in the movie “Dil Dosti Etc”, this one faded from our memory faster than Gajini clicked a polaroid to remember something. The movie got a cult status in itself, but did not help Imaad bag another such role. Currently, he is part of the Electro Funk/ Nu Disco duo MADBOY/ MINK with Saba Azad and is frontman and guitarist/vocalist for the funk/ disco band The Pulp Society.
3. Gracy Singh
Yes, yes, she is an amazing actor. She started her career with tele-series called ‘Amanat”, back when Alok Nath was not yet Alok Nath but baabuji in this series. Then she got her break with Lagaan, for which she won multiple awards and accolades. Post that she came in Munnabhai M.B.B.S. But then we did not watch Munnabhai for Gracy, really. Boman Irani and Sanjay Dutt and rather even Arshad Warsi were in the forefront in that movie. However, Gracy faded from Bollywood scene. She did act in a lot of Telugu and Tamil movies afterwards, but the last we saw her was when she re-entered television with the series “Santoshi Maa” in the role of Santoshi Maa in 2015.
4. Ranvijay Singh
There is no second opinion that this one is a brilliant presenter. I mean his sheer #swag makes him magnetic on tv shows. But when we talk of movies, he tends to lose some sheen. Okay, I will give you 1 point for his performance in “Action Replay”. But, let’s agree that he can pull off some more roles of bully, thug or a goon. I mean, he certainly has a physique for it.
5. Zareen Khan
Also known as the poor man’s Katrina Kaif, this one made us pause and look at her in the movie “Veer”. Well, atleast those of us who watched the movie, thought that this one was worth our while. Maybe afterwards we couldn’t see her much. Again, she did try to promise the audience tomorrow’s substance when she did the item song “Character Dheela”. She is still active on the acting front, but mostly ends up playing the powerless, trophy to her male lead. Hopefully, she can wiggle her way into the mainstream again.Â
6. Rajeev Khandelwal
Well known in the television industry as a performer, writer and presenter, this one came to the big screen with the movie “Aamir”. This is where he left his mark, as the movie went on to earn significant acclaims. This also seems to be the movie where Khandelwal was remarkable. Followed by Aamir, he came in the movie “Table no. 21”, where he was almost enamoring. But we were all expecting more out of him. He has been a part of many movies since and is still singing movies, but none of them seem to be becoming the commercial success he needs for himself.
7. Sneha Ullal
She shot to fame because she is an apparent Aishwarya Rai look-alike.
That is all I can say about her based on her one Bollywood movie, before she came in “Aryan”. Though I understand that she is an accomplished actor in the Telugu film industry. However, I am duty-bound as a writer to state that if her expressions are as “giving” in Telugu movies as they were in “Lucky”, then Celina Jaitly is wasting her time in Bollywood.
8. Jus Arora
Okay, so not all of us remember this hot Punjabi munda, but please I miss seeing him on-screen. Known to be a part of music videos like “Gurr nalo ishq meetha”, this hot model turned actor was a treat to watch. He recently came on-screen as the villain in the movie “paheli” (Yes, the one with Sunny Leone! Phew! Grow up people), yet he was not recognizable. I wonder why can’t we have more of him dancing and smiling with those dimples more on big screen. Someone, please cast him again!
9.Bhumika Chawla
With a hit beside Sallu bhai, this female is a famous South Indian actor, who could not make it big in Bollywood. With the movie Tere Naam in her kitty, she pretty much faded from the Bollywood scene and continued her career in South, till she got married.
There are a few more whom we could have added to the list, but hopefully we won’t have to. It is understandable that our industry is overflowing with talent, but somewhere some of this talent is not shining through, as it can.
