The Indian Premier League or IPL 2020 schedule was released by the governing council. The tournament is slated to begin from 29th March with just six double headers. Each team will be playing a home and an away game against every opponent. No changes in the playing format have been introduced with the top four teams which have the most points to qualify for the playoffs. While the schedule for the league phase is out, the one for the playoffs is yet to be announced.
This is going to be the thirteenth season of the IPL. Ever since its inception back in 2008, the competition has been renowned for producing some edge-of-the-seat thrillers and the quality of cricket produced overall. This year’s tournament is scheduled to take place for a total of 50 days with the final most likely to be played on the 24th of May at the Wankhede stadium.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians and runners-up of the 2019 season Chennai Super Kings will contest in the first game. The rivalry between both the teams is so fierce and intense that it has often been referred to as the ‘El Classico’ of the IPL. Both teams have played four IPL finals against each other with Mumbai winning thrice. They also enjoy the record of most IPL titles. As for the Chennai Super Kings, there has never been a season where the MS Dhoni-led side hasn’t qualified for the playoffs.
