Advertised since some time now, the Sachin movie released for worldwide viewing, finally today. Whether a hardcore fan of cricket or not, everyone had been waiting for this. The name Sachin has always meant “aspirations” and “humility“, together, to one and all. The movie Sachin: A Billion Dreams reminds you exactly the same.

The movie that has been narrated by the god himself, has no part which is uninteresting. Sachin plays himself and that brings goosebumps to the audience. Other than Sachin, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Virender Sehwag are also part of the movie.

The movie takes you through the amazing journey of a notorious child who enters into the fascinating world of cricket, after his brother recognises his natural talent. While building the story to what a cricket phenomena Sachin has become today, the director constantly keeps one conscious to the changes India was going, all the while.

The star being Sachin himself the movie also has Arjun Tendulkar, Mayuresh Pem,  Anjali Tendulkar and Sara Tendulkar.

Looking at the cast you understand that why this is a docudrama and not a feature film.

The movie captures the need of the fans to turn to cricket at difficult times and all the while falling more in love with Sachin.

The movie even though directed by an Englishman, James Erskine, does a lot to capture the worldwide fandom of the man of the hour. 30 minutes into the movie, you feel that you should have been watching this in an open stadium. The sheer roller-coaster of the 1996 world cup is beautiful. The 1999 world cup, when Sachin had lost his father, but still played, breaks your heart.

The highs and the lows of his life are magnified by the refreshing home videos and videos from the dressing room. Sachin’s wedding video and his play time with his children is truly an insight into his personal life. Yes, it is true that a lot of people already know about his life “on-field”, but the peek into his personal life is pretty amazing and keeps you stuck to your seat.

A career encompassing 24 years of sheer brilliance, added with the humility of the man and the love of billions of people across the world while A.R. Rehman’s music plays in the background is a treat to one’s eyes.

Not only does this movie celebrate Sachin as an idea, but also the amazement that Indian cricket is. You feel happy when he is happy, you break when he goes through tough time. You love him on the field and you cheer  his childhood. Each phase of his life has something splendid about it and you are right there with him.

All in all, the movie delivers on the awesomeness it promised in its trailer and is a definite watch. This movie is a true mix of emotions, realism, grit and gumption.
